– Say what you want about him, Nik Lewis gets the biggest cheer of the pre-game introductions.
– The fighter jet flyover is about 30 seconds early during the national anthem. No excuse for that.
– Lewis puts the ball on the ground during the first series of the game. Fans now less impressed with No. 82.
– I don’t mind the Stampeders’ Labor Day black uniforms, but these Eskimo road whites with the green lids are a mess.
– Jon Cornish just killed a guy. If Cornish played hockey, that would be 25 games.
– Bo Levi Mitchell plunges from a couple yards out to make it 7-0 Calgary. That Stamps touchdown is the first I’ve seen at McMahon in eight quarters. I deserve it.
– If this was a live blog or something, I’d invite a bunch of you down. There’s plenty of room. Not sure how this game isn’t sold out tight.
– Kenny Pettway drops Kerry Joseph. What’s the over/under on how many Eskimo quarterbacks we see in this game? I say 1.5 is easy money.
– Cherry Pie by Warrant blasting on the PA. Love it. Jani Lane your talents are missed.
– There’s a band playing at half time. I hope it’s the Stones.
– Just bought 50/50 tickets. Don’t see any way I don’t win.
– Kevin Glenn is picked off. Two turnovers already. Score is flattering to the visitors. Stamps best start cutting down on mistakes.
– And just like that the Esks march the field (10 plays, 93 yards) and on second and 17 Joseph hits Fred Stamps for the touchdown to tie it.
– I’m concerned. That’s an awfully small stage for it to be the Stones.
– Joseph to Hugh Charles, who apparently is slathered in butter as he sheds two Stampeders and wins the foot race to the end zone. Esks botch the extra point but lead 13-7.
– Kickoff sails into the end zone, and the Eskimos get the point anyway.
– Now it’s Lita Ford and Kiss Me Deadly. Am I playing the music?
– Edmonton up 14-7 at the half. Tale of two quarters.
– It’s not the Stones.
– I don’t want to be overly dramatic, but this line dancing halftime show is the worst halftime show on the planet Earth ever.
– Kerry Joseph at the half: 11 of 14 for 197 yards and two touchdowns.
– Will my 50/50 winnings come in cash or cheque? Easier to hide from my lady if it’s cash.
– The Stamps offense has slowed to a crawl. Credit the Esks defence, but the Stamps haven’t exactly lit it up at home in the last three games.
– Attendance is 32,102. Well shy of a capacity 35,650. Concern?
– Big couple of catches by Lewis, followed up by a grab from Cornish and a nifty play to elude J.C. Sherritt and trot in for the major. Esks lead 15-14.
– Hungry.
– Another punt single from Grant Shaw. The most exciting play in football.
– Stamps respond with a seven-play, 75-yard march that ends with the first CFL touchdown for former University of Calgary running back Matt Walter. Calgary leads 21-16. Drinks at the Walter’s after the game.
– I’ve pretty much heard enough LMFAO for the rest of my life — all good, filled up.
– Fourth quarter. Stamps win quarters one and three. Esks take second qaurter.
– Joseph picked off. Great start to the final quarter for the home side.
– So hungry.
– I didn’t win the 50/50. What a joke. No Rolling Stones, and now this?
– Rene Parades hits the field goal. Stamps up 24-16.
– Debating whether or not I should beat the traffic and get out of here. Because, if there’s one thing we know about the CFL, an eight-point lead with nine minutes left is totally safe.
– Another punt single, this time for the Stamps. Electric.
– Joseph to a wide open Stamps, who rips off a 53-yard gain. You may want to cover that guy.
– Roughing the passer by Mace, face mask by Mayo and the Esks are pushed to the two … and Joseph puts it in.
– Glenn on the next possession is picked by Joe Burnett who houses it. Eskimom get 14 points in 43 seconds to make it 30-25.
– Interesting: the Eskimos have scored 28 points going into the wind. The Stamps have put up four points with the wind at their backs.
– Big 29-yard play by Marquay McDaniel.
– Cheerleaders are pretty. What?
– Pass from Glenn hits Bryant in the numbers and he drops it. What was Glenn thinking?
– Next throw, complete to Larry Taylor who gets the score. Two-point conversion is no good. Back and forth we go. Fifth lead change of the game.
– Edmonton ball. The stands aren’t full, but they have stayed to the end and they are loud right now.
– The noise gets a procedure call from Joseph. Even Hufnagel’s waving his arms for noise right now.
– Eskimos string together three first downs and are flirting with field goal range.
– Huge catch by Matt Carter. A 48-yard FG attempt into the wind on the way.
– Are you nervous? I am. I wonder what happens?
– Shaw misses well wide left and Taylor, after a little slip gets it out of the end zone and the Stamps win it 31-30. Not a masterpiece but a huge win for the Stamps who needed something for the fans to enjoy at home. Who’s in for a road trip to Edmonton next weekend?
