CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders have signed import receivers Ronald Keels, Landan Talley and Jonathan Lowe to contracts.
"Keels and Talley are fast receivers who defensive backs had trouble covering while Lowe is smaller and very elusive," Stamps head coach and general manager John Hufnagel said Tuesday in a statement.
"All three of these players shared one important characteristic when we brought them to our free-agent camp in Florida — they made plays. We have good depth at the receiver position, but this trio will try to push them for spots."
Lowe has CFL bloodlines as his father Eddie spent nine seasons playing linebacker for the Saskatchewan Roughriders (1983-1991). Jonathan, 24, played for Mississippi State and Alabama. He compiled 446 all-purpose yards, including 277 in kickoff returns, for the Crimson Tide in 2007.
Keels, 23, totalled 34 catches for 561 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons at Gannon University, which is an NCAA Division 2 school. He holds the school record for kickoff returns (77) and kick off return yards (1,480).
Talley, 23, played for Lambuth University for two seasons. He had 1,772 all-purpose yards for the Eagles, including 20 touchdowns on 70 receptions in 2008. Talley also returned 24 kickoffs for 544 yards.
