CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders signed offensive lineman Brander Craighead on Wednesday.

Calgary took the former University of Texas-El Paso star in the first round, seventh overall, of the 2013 CFL draft but Craighead returned to school last fall.

Earlier this week, Calgary lost offensive lineman J’Michael Deane to the Ottawa Redblacks in the CFL expansion draft.

“I’m very pleased with the signing of our number one draft pick from 2013,” Calgary GM and head coach John Hufnagel said in a statement. “Brander has shown great commitment to the Stampeders by agreeing to this contract at this time.

“He’ll provide good competition and depth to our offensive line when we go to camp in 2014.”
