Ticats unveil plans, location for new stadium

HAMILTON — The creation of a Pan Am Games stadium is closer after the Hamilton Tiger-Cats unveiled details for the proposed stadium site.

The Tiger-Cats want the stadium at the Aberdeen and Longwood location on CP railyards.

The area will include a hotel conference centre, some retail and commercial opportunities and potentially some townhouses.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats president Scott Mitchell says Hamilton council voted in support of the site and is now trying to secure it.

The Games organizing body Hostco has given Hamilton city council a deadline of Feb. 1, 2011, to finalize a deal for the stadium or it will look elsewhere.

The Pan Am Games will take place in the Greater Toronto Area, Hamilton and Welland in 2015.
