PHILADELPHIA — Frederick Plesius is giving the NFL a shot.
The Laval linebacker, taken 10th overall in last week’s CFL draft by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, has been invited to the Philadelphia Eagles rookie minicamp. The six-foot-one, 245-pound Plesius hasn’t signed an NFL contract, but could do so with a solid performance at the camp.
Prior to the CFL draft, the Ticats signed slotback Samuel Giguere nearly three years after making him a first-round selection. Giguere spent three seasons on the practice roster of both the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants before signing with Hamilton.
Plesius, a native of Laval, Que., began his college football career at Baylor before transferring to the Rouge et Or. He finished the season ranked fifth on the CFL’s scouting bureau but fell to the second round of the league’s draft Thursday before being selected by Hamilton.
Wilfrid Laurier receiver Shamawd Chambers, a native of Markham, Ont., who was taken sixth overall Thursday by the Edmonton Eskimos, will also participate in the Eagles minicamp.
