Carter, a six-foot-one 205-pound native of Toledo, Ohio, was released from the Minnesota Vikings’ training camp in August. He has appeared in 34 career CFL regular-season games since 2012 with the Toronto Argonauts, registering 114 tackles, six sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery.

"Jalil Carter is a proven player in this league and is a great addition to our secondary," Tiger-Cats coach and general manager Kent Austin said in a release.

Contract details were not released. Carter won a Grey Cup with the Argonauts in 2012.

Filer, a six-foot-two 300-pound native of Brantford, Ont., has started all 12 games at centre this season for Hamilton and has spent his entire four-year career with the Ticats.

"Mike has worked hard to become a quality and dependable football player for us," Austin said. "He fits the mould of what we’re looking for on and off the field, and this signing will help solidify our offensive line for years to come."
