The CFL announced that XFL players can sign with teams starting March 23, the league announced Saturday.

The XFL announced the cancellation of the remainder of its 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 20 and said players would be free to sign with NFL or CFL teams on March 23.

The first season of the league’s second coming saw just five weeks of its schedule played before it was forced to suspend the remainder of the regular season on March 12.

CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie said recently that the league remains hopeful that normal football activities can resume ahead of the season opener, which is scheduled for June 11.

The CFL still plans to hold its global draft on April 16 and national draft on April 30, but it will not be holding scouting combines because of the coronavirus outbreak.
