The Washington Redskins are currently in a backfield bind so the team is turning to two of the top running backs of the past decade for potential help.
Adrian Peterson is expected to visit with the Redskins on Monday, while Jamaal Charles met with the team Sunday, according to multiple reports.
This news comes after rookie Derrius Guice tore his ACL earlier this month and both Samaje Perine and Byron Marshall sustained injuries in a pre-season loss to the New York Jets this week.
Peterson split the 2017 campaign between the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals following 10 seasons spent with the Minnesota Vikings, but the seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro has only started in 27 games since 2013. The 33-year-old averaged a measly 3.4 yards per carry last year. Apart from a 134-yard game in his Cardinals debut and a 159-yard effort against the 49ers, Peterson was largely a non-factor on the field.
Meanwhile, Charles spent 2017 as a backup with the Denver Broncos where he ran for 296 yards and one touchdown on 69 carries (4.3 yards per carry). The 31-year-old has been injury-plagued since 2014.
Orleans Darkwa, who led the New York Giants with 751 rushing yards a season ago, is also scheduled to work out with Washington.
