The Buffalo Bills have released Canadian-born defensive lineman Corey Mace, the team announced Monday, only a few days after playing against the New York Jets in Toronto.
Mace, born in Port Moody, B.C., was in his third NFL season with the Bills. He spent most of that time inactive or on the practice roster, having played in only five games. The Bills had originally signed Mace as an undrafted free agent in 2007.
Playing in the CFL could be an option for the University of Wyoming product. Mace’s CFL rights belong to the Toronto Argonauts, who acquired them along with a 2010 draft pick from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a trade for Arland Bruce III. Mace was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round of the 2007 CFL Draft.
The Bills also announced the signing of tight end Joe Klopfenstein to the 53-man roster. Klopfenstein re-joins the Bills after being released by the team on November 28. He appeared in all 16 games, making 10 starts in 2008 with St. Louis.
In his three-year career, Klopfenstein has played in 48 games making 37 starts and catching 33 passes for 386 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-5, 262-pound Colorado product originally entered the NFL as a second-round (46th overall) draft choice of the Rams in 2006.
