BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini said he is "leaning" toward starting rookie quarterback Colt McCoy on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
McCoy would be making his NFL regular-season debut against the Steelers. Mangini said the possibility of McCoy playing will depend on the status of quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, who are both battling ankle injuries. Neither will practise on Wednesday.
Mangini said he has confidence in McCoy, a third-round pick who struggled throughout much of the pre-season. McCoy will get the majority of the snaps with the first-team offence in practice, Mangini said.
On Tuesday, the Browns re-signed quarterback Brett Ratliff off New England’s practice squad. Ratliff could be an option to start against the Steelers.
