Fresh off their 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night that earned them their first Super Bowl title in 50 years, the Kansas City Chiefs have opened as +600 favourites to successfully defend their title on the Super Bowl 55 odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Led by Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes the Chiefs mounted their third straight comeback victory in this season’s NFL playoffs, and closed out their championship campaign on a nine-game straight-up win streak. But Kansas City did not get through the season without enduring its fair share of adversity. The Chiefs offence was plagued by a rash of mid-season injuries, most notably to Mahomes and receiver Tyreek Hill, but the team rebounded to finish atop the AFC West standings for a fourth straight year with a 12-4 record.

The Chiefs also benefited from a strong playoff run by the Tennessee Titans, who cleared the way for Kansas City in the AFC by recording upset victories over the New England Patriots and top-seeded Baltimore Ravens. However, Kansas City must now look toward a busy off-season, with 24 players from this year’s championship team set to become free agents.

The Niners and the Ravens closely trail Kansas City on the Super Bowl 55 odds at betting sites, deadlocked as +800 second favourites, followed by the New Orleans Saints at +1000, and the Patriots at +1100.

San Francisco enjoyed an impressive breakthrough this past season, as the Niners ended a five-year playoff drought by marching to the top of the NFC standings with a 13-3 SU record. But while the Niners emerged as one of the NFL’s top teams on both sides of the ball this past season, they can expect to face several challenges next season. In addition to stiff competition in the perennially competitive NFC West, the Niners are currently listed as having the fourth toughest schedule next season based on how their opponents competed in 2019.

The Ravens emerged as the class of the NFL this season, as NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson led them on a 12-game SU win streak. However, Baltimore will have a lot to prove in 2020 after meekly bowing out with a 28-12 loss to Tennessee in the playoffs. Both the Saints and Patriots find themselves at a crossroads entering the off-season, as future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Drew Brees and Tom Brady mull their future with their respective teams.

Further down the Super Bowl 55 betting lines, the Los Angeles Chargers join the Green Bay Packers at +1600 on those NFL odds, just ahead of the Dallas Cowboys at +1800, while the Pittsburgh Steelers sit alone at +2200.
