‘Phins place Carey on IR, sign WR Curtis

MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins placed tackle Vernon Carey on injured reserve and signed receiver Kevin Curtis on Tuesday.

Carey’s streak of 87 consecutive starts ended Sunday because of a knee injury. Tuesday’s roster move means he’ll miss the final three games as well. Lydon Murtha replaced Carey is expected to start this week against Buffalo.

Curtis shores up a hobbled receiving corps. Miami lost Brian Hartline last week with a season-ending injury to a finger on his left hand, and Brandon Marshall is slowed by a right hamstring injury.

Curtis played in only three games last year with Philadelphia because of a left knee injury and hasn’t played this season while recovering from a bout with testicular cancer. The eighth-year veteran has 252 career receptions, 20 for touchdowns.
