The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms with quarterback Matt Schaub on a two-year contract extension, the club announced Saturday.
Financial details have not yet been disclosed.
Over the past three seasons, Schaub has made appearances in seven games as Matt Ryan’s backup. However, the veteran has proven valuable to the club given his “ability to serve as another pair of eyes for Ryan on the field and in the film room,” according to the team.
“Matt has a great understanding of our scheme and brings valuable experience to the position,” head coach Dan Quinn said in a press release.
Schaub was originally selected by the Falcons in the third round (90th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft out of the University of Virginia.
He spent his first three seasons in Atlanta and played in 38 games with two starts for the team while completing 84-of-161 passes for 1,033 yards and six touchdowns. The 37-year-old went on to play out stints with Houston, Oakland and Baltimore, before returning to Atlanta.
