Free agent running back Cedric Benson may have found a new home.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Benson is in Green Bay visiting with the Packers. Sources close to the former Cincinnati Bengal say the back will "probably" sign with the Super Bowl XLV champions, though no deal has been reached.
Benson spent the last three seasons in Cincinnati, rushing for more than 1000 yards in each of those campaigns. The former Texas Longhorn was drafted fourth overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2005 NFL Draft, but the Bears released Benson following the 2007 season after three disappointing years with the club and numerous run-ins with the law.
The Packers are in desperate need of experience at running back. James Starks is currently the team’s number one back, after the team decided not to re-sign former 1000-yard rusher Ryan Grant. Behind Starks on the Packers depth chart are second-year backs Alex Green and Brandon Saine.
