Bengals reinforce defence by re-signing Tank

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Defensive tackle Tank Johnson signed a four-year deal to stay with the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday.

Johnson started 13 games last season despite a case of plantar faciitis in his right foot that limited his mobility. He felt better as the season went along, and tied for the team lead with 10 tackles in a playoff loss to the New York Jets.

Johnson came to Cincinnati on a one-year deal from Dallas. The Bengals consider him an important part of their defensive line rotation and a reason why their run defence improved last season. Cincinnati finished fourth overall in defence last season, seventh against the run.
