Citing philosophical differences, Mike Martz has resigned at the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, per Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune.
Martz coached Chicago’s offence for the past two years.
This year, two of Martz’ biggest weapons – quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte – were injured for the latter portions of the schedule, and the Bears failed to make the playoffs, finishing 8-8. The team went 11-5 in 2010, losing in the NFC Championship to the eventual champions, the Green Bay Packers.
He is well known for being the offensive coordinator of ‘The Greatest Show on Turf,’ the 1999 St. Louis Rams squad that won Super Bowl XXXIV.
Martz was promoted to head coach of the Rams the following season, where he coached for five seasons before being fired. He has also been the offensive coordinator in San Francisco and Detroit.
The move comes the same day the Bears fired general manager Jerry Angelo after 11 years on the job.
