Make no mistake. The Patriots are a far superior team, and Tom Brady is the early league MVP.
This season’s Super Bowl will take place Feb. 3rd in Arizona, but according to many, the unofficial version took place last Sunday. Two teams, both (5-0), Brady vs. Romo, and oh yes the battle of 81s, Moss vs. Owens. No doubt it was the marquee match-up to date in the NFL, but the drama was killed early and often by the league’s best team and its premier pivot.
Terrell Owens told us to ‘get your popcorn ready.’ Perhaps he should have told his secondary ‘you better be ready.’ Tom Brady carved up the defense like a turkey on Thanksgiving, tossing a career high 5 TD passes and he could have had more. He misfired on 15 passes, a regular day for many QBs, but not TB.
His performance helped solidify his early vote for league MVP. As for Tony Romo, his numbers were decent, (18 of 29 for 199 yds with two TDs and, one INT) but to compare the two is idiotic.
As for the real No. 81, neither really stood out. In fact both were overshadowed by Dante Stallworth (who’s 81 in the mirror), and Wes Welker. Thanks to those two, Moss and Owens actually became the sideshow, as neither had the impact many thought they would. In fact, the 81s had a combined 12 catches for only 125 yards and didn’t really have much say in the end, sort of like T.O.’s post-game.
I know it’s early, by there’s the potential to see a lot history made by this Patriots They look unstoppable, but I guess we’ll get the definitive answer Nov 4th when they step into the champs’ house.
If they knock off the Colts, many will start talking about a perfect season and rightfully so. Is it possible? Obviously, yes. But probable? I’m thinking no…especially since they also have a date with my Eagles…ha ha.
So I ask you: Who’s the best team in football right now, the Colts, or Pats?
It would be great to get the answer in Week 9, if they’re both still undefeated. Indy fans, you’re in tough though next week at Jacksonville. If I had to choose right now, no doubt my money’s riding with Tom Brady and his bunch who’ve proved they can beat you in a lot ways. The only negative with New England is the video issue, but this aside, we should all keep the tapes rolling because there’s no telling what records Bill’s boys could eclipse this season.
Lates,
Porty

The Pats have proved they can beat us in a lot of ways? How about that magnificent comeback last year to send the Colts to the Bowl? You bet, the Pats sure showed us.
You know what they don’t beat us at? Points scored in the last 2 minutes of the half or the 4th. Peyton is (to use a favorite of Porty’s) “as cool as the other side of the pillow”.
What I don’t understand, is why you are such a Peyton hater and a Brady lover? The guys are phenomenal, but come on. To bias one against the other? Seriously dude, its almost as sad as the Big Dude’s devotion to a dumb manager and an even stupider board of owners.
Brady is great, but I have never seen the guy produce in the clutch like Peyton has. In fact, for 2 of his rings, he didn’t… A dude by the name of Adam did…

The Colts have still beaten the better teams. And langhower is right. Tom Brady didn’t kick 2 super bowl winning kicks. a man by the name of Vinitari did that.(and Brady barley got in his range). The fact is Peyton is the better QB Peyton learned the highlight reel plays don’t win you a super bowl. being calm cool and collected do. The Colts HAVE the pats number. They walked into the Pats house and beat them last year. then in the play offs came back down 21-3 at half time. even when the Pats were cheating. So November 4th no other person on the planet is going to know the Pats D better then Peyton Manning.
But you have to wait to see what is in store for both the Colts and the Pats. as the Pats have a team by the name of the dolphins comming up, they don’t like people celebrating ending the dolphins one true era too early. The fins beat a vastly supirior team in the bears for their first defeat in 85, and again last year. The Pats can not underestimate the dolphins. because they are a team with enough playmakers on Defence to hurt you bad. And the Colts got the Jags.
As for the super bowl preview that’s a laugh no team has won ANYTHING yet. Also the officiating was a joke in that Pats Boys game. Randy Moss runs into a defender who gets flagged for making a play on the ball. And TO gets pushed out and has what would have been a first down taken away. I quit watching the game because the Pats were going to win, the NFL interferd too much in it, just like the Seahawks Steelers super bowl.

What exactly are you talking about langhower? Brady isn’t as “clutch” to you as Manning? Are you serious?
Here are several reasons why your comment is (at best) uneducated and (at worst) just plain stupid;
#1. Yes Vinateri nailed 2 game winners in the Superbowl wins but who got them down the field in 1:29 and into position for that game winner? Nice how you seemed to forget that fact AND Brady has 2 Superbowl MVP trophies (1 deserved, the other because he was the “feel good” story of the season in 2001, 6th round pick winning it all).
#2 Before last season, Manning had so much trouble with the PAtriots defence that he would whine and complain after each humiliating loss about how his receivers were being interfered with or beaten up or abused (He used all of these terms at one time or another so often, i can’t remember which one was said in what year, 2002, 2003, 2004, or 2005). He complained so much about it that the league actually changed teh definition of Pass interference to make it easier for him to win it all and, low and behold, in the first year of the revised rules, Manning gets 49 TD passes….Hmmmmmm….sounds fishy to me.
#3 Yes, the Colts (Finally) stopped placing two hands around their own necks and stopped choking their way out of the Superbowl (partially because of Reason #2 as well) last year and overcame an 18 point deficit and were able to barely survive a home game AFC Championship game against a Patriots team that had severe injuries in their secondary and LB (Seau broken arm, Harrison out with a bad knee, Wilson out at Safety and Hank Poteat in off the street). Also, the Pats WR’s in that game (with the exception of Troy Brown, who actually ran the wrong route in that final drive where Brady was picked off) were Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney, Doug Gabriel, Brown, Ben Watson and Daniel Graham (both at TE). Now both QB’s have equal weapons, and Brady is on pace to obliterate Manning’s record for TD’s. Funny how that works out.
#4. The only thing Manning has on Brady is the NFL MVP award which, at this point, Brady is the concensus choice to win it this year. By the way, in the season after each of Manning, McNair and LaDanian won their MVP trophies, Brady and Co. have gone out of their way to not just beat their respective teams, but detroy them…look it up (it was on SI.com yesterday).
#5. Brady tied Roger Staubach for the greates winning % after 100 NFL starts (thats all he’s played in so far?) with a 76-24 record. His career Playoff record is 12-3 compared with Manning who is still below .500 even with a ring.
I guess the best thing to say in response to you is to use Patrick Roy’s old quote he said after hearing about Jeremy Roenick’s comments about picking up his jock strap after JR notched a couple of goals against him in the Playoffs….” I can’t hear you because of the (Super Bowl) rings in my ears…..”

Sonechop2,
I couldn’t agree more, I don’t know what else to add. To say Brady isn’t as clutch as Manning is ridiculous. Plus I like you’re little jab at the Oilers. You abviously know nothing about hockey, kinda like football, not to mention that even the Kevin Lowe haters can agree, he does what it takes to make his team better. But back to football, I just don’t see how you could argue, with what Sonechop2 said. But I know that this argument could go on forever, like the Marino, Montanna (if anyone says that Montanna is better than Marino you need to look no further than his own coaches quote “Joe Montana was a product of a system, Dan Marino was a system” — Bill Walsh).
