A few prank callers allegedly recorded a conversation between Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix and Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik last Friday.

The conversation included Nix and Dominik discussing their frustrations with the upcoming free-agent period and some issues surrounding both of their teams.

Deadspin.com was able to get a hold of the audio from the tapped phone call and published it to their website Tuesday morning.

The most interesting takeaways from the conversation included:

-Nix was not happy with Ryan Fitzpatrick’s six-year, $62-million contract and says they are still searching for a solution at the quarterback position.

“We’re still struggling here with our quarterback,” Nix said. “He’s going to have to do something, or we’ll have to. We just can’t afford to pay that kind of money for a guy who’s fighting for probably a backup job.”

Nix had quarterbacks Drew Brees and Philip Rivers when he was a member of the San Diego Chargers front office and realizes the Bills “got to get one somehow.”

-Both Nix and Dominik were displeased with a new NFL rule that allowed teams to negotiate with agents starting at midnight Friday, three days before the free-agent period began.

Dominik was upset that none of his players were willing to re-sign and were just using the negotiation window to test the market.

“None of mine are signing,” said the Buccaneers general manager. “Not one of them. They don’t want to sign.”

On Tuesday, the Bills released a statement on the controversy:

“We are aware of the report on Deadspin involving a phone conversation with Bills GM Buddy Nix. We have made the league aware of the report and are reviewing it with legal counsel.”
