The National Football League’s second-round playoff equation is set and there are some intriguing match-ups.
We begin with Mike Holmgren present vs. Mike Holmgren past. His Seahawks return to his old stomping ground, Lambeau Field, in a post-season rematch from 2004. (Yes, the infamous “we want the ball we’re going to score” comment. Matt Hasselbeck completed a pass to Al Harris and 52 yards later it was ballgame over.) I don’t see this year’s meeting being quite as close. Like Seattle, Green Bay is virtually unbeatable on their home field. In fact, both went (7-1) in their respective buildings this regular season. Look for Hasselbeck’s homies to have a tough time vs. the Packers “D”. I like Green Bay to win and cover the spread whatever it is.
Up next we focus on the Jaguars trying to end the Patriots perfection. I can’t wait for this one, all along I’ve said New England would go unbeaten in the regular season but they won’t win the Super Bowl. I am sticking with this, in fact Jacksonville could be the team to end the run. The 1-2 punch of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew could make it a long night for the Pats 10th-ranked “D” vs. the rush. Then again they’re the Patriots so even if they give up 35 points, they’ll just go out and score what… 50? I’m going with the Jags to beat the spread and perhaps even win the game outright. You may think I’m crazy, well you’re right.
As for Sunday’s set-up if it’s anything like their Week 10 meeting, the Colts and Chargers could be a good game. Here are the reasons why it probably won’t be: Exhibit A) Peyton Manning will not toss 6 interceptions. Exhibit B) Adam Vinatieri won’t be missing any chip shots. Exhibit C) Darren Sproles won’t return both a kickoff and punt for touchdowns. Exhibit D) see a,b,and c. OK, the defense rests. I think you get the picture, not to mention San Diego won despite being held to 177 yards of total offense. I like the home team to get it done and hand the Chargers yet another early post-season exit…sorry Norv.
Finally it’s the NFC East showdown between the Giants and Cowboys. It’s the 30th playoff appearance for both teams which is the most in league history. The Boys swept the regular season, and I think they’ll extend the trend on Sunday afternoon. Although, having said this, Tony Romo kinda scares me under centre. He’s not the most consistent quarterback but he’ll do enough to beat the G-Men. Home field is a huge advantage for Dallas, and I don’t see the Giants making it much of a game. They had a nice win in Tampa but that’s not really saying much. This one could be over before the half…good luck Eli.
Recapping I like the Packers, Colts, Cowboys to cover and the Jags to beat the spread. If there’s going to be an upset I think it’ll be Jack’s Jaguars who just might stun Brady’s Boys. I’ve had my say, what’s yours??
As always I look forward to your responses.
Lates,
Porty

Am I the only one thats wants to see a manning showdown in the playoffs…Although I think that the giants are going to lose I think it would be really great it the two brothers could face of at some point this post season…

I hope to see some Efence… that’s right E-fence, cause there is no D.
If I ever hear that again Porty, I’m going to throw a tomato at my TV (at you!)
