ASHBURN, Va. — Free-agent punter Josh Bidwell has signed with the Washington Redskins after missing all of the 2009 season with a hip injury.
Bidwell was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this month after playing for them since 2004. He went on injured reserved in August 2009.
Bidwell, 34, also was with the Green Bay Packers from 1999-2003, although he missed his entire rookie season because of testicular cancer.
He has a career average of 42.8 yards and was a Pro Bowl pick in 2005.
Hunter Smith had a 41.3 average as Washington’s punter last season. His contract expired, and he is an unrestricted free agent.
