Los Angeles Chargers defensive lineman Joey Bosa has agreed to a five-year, $135-million extension that includes a record amount of guaranteed money for a defensive player, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Bosa’s extension ensures that he’ll be under contract with the Chargers for the next six years, as 2020 represented the final year of his rookie deal. The new pact includes $102 million of guaranteed money.
The 25-year-old was the third-overall pick in the 2016 draft, and has since won the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award and been named to two Pro Bowls. He has 40 sacks and 53 tackles for losses in 51 career games.
Earlier this month, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes set a record of his own, signing a 10-year deal worth up to $503 million — the most lucrative contract in sports history.
