The Indianapolis Colts are acquiring defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the San Francisco 49ers for a first-round pick, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Rapoport adds the Colts are also signing Buckner to an extension worth $21 million per season.

The 25-year-old Buckner, who was a Pro Bowler in 2018, had 62 combined tackles and 14 QB hits in 16 games for the 49ers last year. Additionally, he collected four fumbles and 7.5 sacks.

Buckner was entering the final year of his rookie contract before the trade, but his new extension will make him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL.

The 49ers, who lost the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, now hold picks Nos. 13 and 30 in the upcoming NFL Draft.
