Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon reportedly requested a trade last week, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.

Anderson cites the Chargers’ failure to improve their initial offer of a $10 million-per-season salary as a reason behind the trade request.

Gordon’s agent, Damarius Bilbo, was reportedly not granted permission to seek out trade partners for his client after the request was made.

Despite being limited to 12 regular-season games in 2018, Gordon rushed for 10 touchdowns and caught four scores through the air while accumulating 1,375 yards from scrimmage.

The 26-year-old is part of a select group of NFL stars participating in contract holdouts ahead of training camp, joining the likes of Dallas Cowboys halfback Ezekiel Elliott. New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was also in the midst of a contract holdout, although that ended after Thomas and the Saints reportedly agreed to terms on a record $100-million contract extension.

Gordon is set to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2019 season.
