U.S. Olympic sprinter taking talents to NFL

American Olympic silver medalist Jeff Demps has turned his focus to the gridiron.

According to a report from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the former University of Florida running back signed a representation agreement on Tuesday to become an NFL free agent.

Demps, who won a silver medal with the U.S. 4x100m relay team, ran for over 2,400 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career as a Gator. Being a sprinter, Demps also returned kicks for Florida, averaging 28.8 yards per return.

A part of the Gators’ 2009 national championship team along with New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow, Demps also won NCAA titles in the 60-metre dash indoor and the 100-metre dash outdoor.

Following the end of his college football career in January, the 22-year-old told NFL teams he would be focusing on his track career and went undrafted in April as a result.

As an undrafted free agent, Demps is allowed to sign with any team he chooses.
