The XFL has suspended operations and laid off “nearly all” of its employees, according to ESPN’s Field Yates and Kevin Seifert.
The league reportedly alerted employees of the decision in a conference call on Friday with COO Jeffery Pollock.
Despite pledging to return when the league was originally forced to halt its season last month, ESPN reports the XFL “currently has no plans to return in 2021.”
According to a prominent former XFL staffer who was on the call, Pollack stopped short of saying the league was going out of business. But the strong implication was clear. “It’s done,” the staffer said. “It’s not coming back.”– ESPN
The first season of the XFL’s second coming was cancelled on March 20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic after just five weeks of its schedule was played.
Since the 2020 XFL season was called off, multiple players have joined NFL teams.
