Patrick Cantlay will be looking for his second victory of the PGA Tour season when he tees off this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am as a strong plus-700 favourite on the golf odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Cantlay’s lone victory of the season, and his fourth-career win as a pro, came at last fall’s ZOZO Championship @ Sherwood. In addition, the 28-year-old American also has three top-10 finishes to his credit this season going into Thursday’s opening round in California.
After turning in middling performances in two outings following his victory at the ZOZO Championship, including a 17th-place finish at the Masters, Cantlay turned things around last time out at The American Express in La Quinta. The Long Beach native started slowly, barely making the cut, before shooting a combined minus-18 on the final two days to finish just one stroke back of eventual winner Si Woo Kim.
However, Cantlay has struggled at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am since claiming ninth place back in 2013, finishing no better than 11th in four subsequent appearances.
Daniel Berger will be looking to get back on track after missing the cut last time out at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. That disappointment snapped a run of three straight top-10 finishes for the 27-year-old, who looks to the weekend as a plus-1500 second favourite on the Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds.
Berger finished fifth at this event a year ago, kicking off a run of six top-five finishes in eight outings, including a victory in the PGA’s return to play at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Further down the odds for this week at sports betting sites, Jason Day joins Paul Casey and Will Zalatoris at plus-1600, just ahead of 2017 tournament winner Jordan Spieth at plus-1700. Francesco Molinari rounds out the front of the pack at plus-2400 odds, while Canadian Nick Taylor lags as a distant plus-6600 wager despite winning this tournament a year ago.
It has been a tough season for Day, who travels to Pebble Beach after missing the cut in three of his past four tour appearances. Overall, the Australian has made the cut in just five of nine outings this season, with his lone top-10 finish coming at the Vivint Houston Open. However, Day turned in a steady fourth-place performance at this event a year ago.
Conversely, both Casey and Zalatoris are coming off strong outings. Casey picked up his first top-10 finish of the season by claiming a share of eighth place at The American Express. Zalatoris has finished eighth or better in four of his eight appearances so far this season.
