Jon Rahm will be making his first tournament appearance since the Open Championship when he tees off at the Northern Trust on Thursday as the +1000 betting favourite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The winner at this year’s U.S. Open, Rahm followed up with a third-place performance at last month’s Open Championship, and has now finished among the top 10 in seven of his past 10 outings going into this week’s event at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Overall, the 26-year-old Spaniard has cracked the top 10 on 12 occasions this season, and enters the FedExCup playoffs in fifth place in the FedExCup standings despite making just 19 tournament appearances this season.
Rahm has built this season’s success on stellar performances on the big stage. In addition to claiming his first career major tournament win at the U.S. Open, and his strong play at the Open Championship, he also finished eighth at the PGA Championship and fifth at this year’s Masters. Rahm’s high level of play also extends to his past appearances at the Northern Trust, where he has finished no worse than sixth on three occasions.
Rahm is chased on the 2021 Northern Trust odds by Jordan Spieth, who is set as a +1600 second favourite, just ahead of reigning champion and three-time winner Dustin Johnson at +1800. Currently sitting atop the FedExCup standings, Collin Morikawa sits alongside Rory McIlroy at +2000, while Xander Schauffele rounds out the front of the pack as a +2200 bet.
It has been somewhat of a roller coaster campaign for Spieth, who is coming off a 12th-place finish last time out at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Like Rahm, the 28-year-old Texan has been stellar at big events, finishing second at the Open Championship and third at the Masters. However, he has failed to crack the top 20 in four of his past outings.
The Northern Trust champion in two of the past four editions of the tournament, Johnson has some work to do to regain the form that previously lifted him to the top of the World Golf Rankings after finishing among the top 10 just twice in his past 13 outings. And despite his recent success at this event, Johnson has finished well out of contention in the last three editions of the Northern Trust played at Liberty National.
Other notables on the Northern Trust odds at online betting sites for this week include Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, who are knotted at +2800, with two-time winner Patrick Reed at +5000, while Corey Conners leads all Canadians as a +6600 wager for the event.
