Brooks Koepka will be looking to halt his slide down the World Golf Rankings when he tees it up this week as a +1100 favourite on the Honda Classic odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Koepka opened the season as the world’s top-ranked golfer, but has turned in forgettable performances in three tournament appearances to fall to No. 3 in the rankings going into the 2020 Honda Classic at the PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
A native of nearby West Palm Beach, Koepka hopes to rebound from a disappointing 43rd-place finish at The Genesis Invitational, which he entered earlier this month as a lengthy +2000 wager at online betting sites. Koepka opened his season by missing the cut at the Shriners Hospital for Children Open, and was forced to withdraw from the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges after aggravating a knee injury in a fall on wet concrete.
However, Koepka enjoyed success at this tournament a year ago, finishing second to winner Keith Mitchell. That marked the second of nine eventual top-10 finishes in 2019 for the 29-year-old, including top-four finishes at each of last year’s major tournaments.
Tommy Fleetwood sits second to Koepka at +1200 on the golf odds for the week, just ahead of Rickie Fowler who rounds out the front of the pack at +1400.
Fleetwood has also gotten his 2020 campaign off to a slow start. The 29-year-old Englishman has finished well off the pace in four tournament appearances so far this season, but has finished strong in the final round of each of his outings, climbing into 18th place at last weekend’s WGC-Mexico Championship on the strength of a final round 69. Fleetwood also turned in a solid fourth-place performance in his only previous appearance at the Honda Classic back in 2018.
Fowler opened his campaign on a strong note, recording top-10 finishes in each of his first three outings, but has struggled since. The 31-year-old failed to make the cut at last month’s Farmers Insurance Open, and settled for 37th place earlier this month at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
However, Fowler has been a steady presence at or near the top of the Honda Classic leaderboard in recent years. In addition to claiming victory in 2017, Fowler joined Koepka in second place last year, and has four career top-10 finishes to his credit at this event.
Further down the Honda Classic odds, reigning US Open champion Gary Woodland leads the best of the rest at +2200, just ahead of Billy Horschel, who joins Justin Rose and Louis Oosthuizen at +2500. Mitchell lags at a distant +6600 on the odds for this week.
