Dawson takes 3-stroke lead in PGA Q-school

LA QUINTA, Calif. — Marco Dawson shot a 4-under 68 on Sunday on PGA West’s TPC Stadium Course to take a three-stroke lead into the final round of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament.

The 48-year-old Dawson had a 17-under 343 total. He made three PGA Tour starts this year and also played in 21 Nationwide Tour events.

The top 25 in the six-round event will earn PGA Tour cards.

Nationwide Tour player Stephen Gangluff was second after a 67 on the Stadium course.

Former Georgia star Harris English, a Nationwide Tour winner this year while still in school, was 13 under along with Brendon Todd. English shot a 70, and Todd had a 68. They played the Stadium course.

Calgary’s Ryan Yip is the top Canadian after firing a 73 on the Stadium Course to move into a tie for 42nd at 4-under 356.

Stuart Anderson of Strathmore, Alta., carded a 73 to sit at 3-under 357 in a tie for 53rd along with Brad Fritsch of Manotick, Ont., who moved up the leaderboard with 1-under 71. Meanwhile, Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., shot a 75 and is tied for 92nd at even par 360. All three played the Stadium course.

At the Nicklaus Tournament, Calgary’s James Love (71) is tied for 119th; Richard Scott of Kingsville, Ont., moved up to 132nd with a 3-under 69; Mitch Gillis (72) of Williams Lake, B.C., was 150th and Vancouver’s Richard Lee was 157th.

David Duval was tied for 63rd after a 68 on the Nicklaus Tournament Course.
