Klingberg scores OT winner in IceCaps 3-2 victory

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Carl Klingberg scored 37 seconds into overtime as the St. John’s IceCaps held on to beat the visiting Portland Pirates 3-2 on Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Will O’Neill and Chase Balisy also scored for the IceCaps (17-19-6), who led 2-0 before Portland charged back.

Dylan Reese put the Pirates (22-16-3) on the board and Jordan Szwarz forced extra time with a goal at 19:53 of the third period.

Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves for St. John’s as Portland’s Louis Domingue turned aside 35-of-38 shots.

The IceCaps went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Pirates failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.
