SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Ivan Telegin scored a quick goal in overtime as the St. John’s IceCaps beat the Springfield Falcons 3-2 in American Hockey League play Saturday.
Falcons centre Ryan Johansen tied the game at two at 19:32 in the third, but Telegin ended Springfield’s comeback bid with a goal 56 seconds into overtime.
Spencer Machacek and Raymond Sawada also scored for the IceCaps (12-14-1).
Sean Collins gave Springfield (14-5-5) a 1-0 lead 10:29 into the first period.
Machacek tied the game on the power play just over eight minutes later, and after a scoreless second Sawada put St. John’s ahead on another power-play goal five minutes into the third for a 2-1 lead.
IceCaps goaltender Eddie Pasquale made 21 saves, while at the other end Allen York stopped 21 shots for the Falcons.
