Joseph scores two for QMJHL in win over Russia

Mathieu Joseph scored twice en route to the QMJHL’s 6-4 win over Russia, capping a win for the CHL against their opponents In the Canada/Russia Series.

HALIFAX — Mathieu Joseph had a pair of goals and Jeremy Lauzon scored once and set up two more as Team QMJHL beat Russia 6-4 on Thursday in the sixth and final game of an exhibition series between the Russians and all-stars from the Canadian Hockey League.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Nicolas Meloche and Anthony Beauvillier also scored for Team QMJHL, which made up for a 3-2 loss to the Russians on Tuesday.

Evgeny Svechnikov struck twice for Russia while Artur Lauta and Kirill Pilipenko added the others. Maxim Lazarez chipped in with three helpers.

Team QMJHL’s Mason McDonald turned away 27 shots for the win. Alexander Trushkov started in net for Russia, but lasted only 15:07 after giving up three goals on nine shots. Maxim Tretiak went the rest of the way and made 22 saves in relief.

Team QMJHL went 0 for 2 on the power play while Russia scored once on five chances with the man advantage.

CHL teams took five of the six games in the series, with Team WHL and Team OHL opening the series with four straight victories.
