On Wednesday, the CHL announced the full list of 40 players who will compete in the Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, which is scheduled to be played on Jan. 25 in Guelph, Ont.
This year’s game marks the 23rd anniversary and features players who are eligible to be taken in the 2018 NHL Draft.
“Best-on-best competition is a valuable way to evaluate talent and that’s exactly what the Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game provides,” said NHL Central Scouting Director Dan Marr in a press release. “NHL scouts and general managers will have the unique opportunity to see many of the top CHL players for the 2018 NHL Draft showcase their abilities in a competitive environment.”
Last year, all 14 players who were picked in the first round of the draft out of the CHL played in this game, and this season there are 16 projected first-rounders. A total of 307 players have been drafted into the NHL after playing in this game dating back 22 years.
For now, the teams are split into “Team 1” and “Team 2” and it will be decided at a later date which is Team Orr and which is Team Cherry.
