Generals topple Petes in Friday Night Hockey
DJ Smith manages his bench well and he’s done a great job teaching his defencemen the finer aspects of playing the position.
Mitchell Vande Sompel may not be big, but he’s got great offensive instincts.
Michael Dal Colle continues to prove that he deserves to be a top-5 pick in the 2014 NHL draft.
Jacob Busch is a great story. Last year he played Jr. C with the Midland Flyers. He played in just 2 of Oshawa’s first nine games this season, and has been a mainstay in the since.
Nick Ritchie doesn’t know just how good he can be.
Eric Cornel was the forgotten man with Ritchie and Dal Colle in the game. Cornel has great speed and is versatile. He says playing the wing has been a blessing, relieving some of the defensive zone responsibilities.
Petes overage goalie Andrew D’Agostini is the last link Generals GM Jeff Twohey has to the Peterborough Petes.
Great to see Mike Davies, reporter for the Peterborough Examiner. If you don’t know his story, it’s worth a read.
Petes long-time trainer Brian Millar has a new invention for doing up skates, check out Option-B.
This and That
Congrats to long-time former Blades owner Jack Brodsky for his Governors Award as presented by WHL commissioner Ron Robison. Word has it that on his way out the door, Brodsky ensured the, “Blades,” name would remain intact under new ownership.
Quite the message sent by the Edmonton Oil Kings with a 7-3 win at home against provincial rival Calgary on Saturday, only to win again in OT on Sunday.
Keep an eye on the following races. The top 8 in the QMJHL. Going into play Tuesday night, just nine points separate the top 8 teams. In the WHL’s Eastern Division, Swift Current, Brandon and Regina are three points apart. And the best race is in the OHL’s Midwest division where Guelph leads Erie by a point with a late run expected by London, 10 points off the pace.
Who’s had the most impact with their new/old clubs? Starting in the QMJHL; Mikhail Grigorenko (Quebec Remparts six points in four GP), Charles Hudon (Baie-Comeau eight points in five GP), Vladimir Tkachev (five points in three GP). In the OHL, Hunter Garlent (Peterborough 17 points in eight GP), Dylan Smoskowitz (eight points in seven GP), Sudbury Joseph Blandisi (Barrie 10 points in six GP)? And in the WHL Matthew Dumba (Portland six points in five GP), Nathan Burns (13 points in 10 GP), Adam Tambellini (Calgary 11 points in eight GP)?
Amongst the changes in the U-17 Challenge hosted by Hockey Canada is the start date. Next year the event will begin October 31st in a to be determined location. This was done to move away from the World Juniors.
