Dumba scores in OT as Rebels beat Hitmen

Mathew Dumba scored a power-play goal at 6:33 of overtime to lift the Red Deer Rebels over the Calgary Hitmen.

RED DEER, Alta. — Mathew Dumba scored a power-play goal at 6:33 of overtime to lift the Red Deer Rebels over the Calgary Hitmen 2-1 in WHL playoff action Monday.

The win reduced Calgary’s lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal to 2-1. Game 3 is Tuesday in Red Deer.

Peter Kosterman opened the scoring for the visitors seven minutes into the game and Brooks Maxwell pulled Red Deer even with a short-handed goal at 14:30 of the first period.

Patrik Bartosak turned aside 38 shots for the Rebels. Hitmen goalie Chris Driedger made 42 saves.
