Finland’s offence too much for Slovakia at WJC

Kasperi Kapanen scores his first goal of the tournament as Finland routed Slovakia 8-3 on Wednesday at the world junior championship in Finland.

HELSINKI — Tournament scoring leader Jesse Puljujarvi had a four-point game to lead Finland to an 8-3 rout of Slovakia at the world junior hockey championship.

Puljujarvi, who has 10 points in the preliminary round, finished with one goal and three assists to help Finland improve to 2-1.

Finland took a 3-2 lead into the third period at Hartwall Arena before breaking out with five goals to put the game away.

Sebastian Aho scored twice for the host side while Roope Hintz, Kasper Bjorkqvist, Aleksi Saarela, Patrik Laine and Kasperi Kapanen added singles.

Matus Sukel, Radovan Bondra and Patrik Maier scored for Slovakia, which fell to 1-2.
