MacKinnon, Drouin headline Cdn junior camp

Halifax Mooseheads' Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon.

TORONTO — Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin don’t know where they’ll go in Sunday’s NHL draft, but they do know where they will be this summer.

The Halifax Mooseheads teammates headline a roster of 35 players invited to Canada’s national junior team summer development camp, which takes place Aug. 4-10 in Brossard, Que., and Lake Placid, N.Y.

The Colorado Avalanche have hinted they will take MacKinnon with the first overall pick, and Drouin will likely go in the top five.

MacKinnon and Drouin will anchor a forward unit that includes young players Sam Reinhart and Conor McDavid. Reinhart is expected to be a top pick at the 2014 draft, and McDavid will likely go high in 2015.

Defenceman Darnell Nurse and forward Max Domi, probable first-round picks on Sunday, have also been invited to the camp.

Returning veterans include Toronto defenceman Morgan Rielly and New York Islanders prospect Griffin Reinhart.

Canada is looking for its first world junior gold medal since 2009.
