Maple Leafs to loan Nylander to Team Sweden

Marlies forward and AHL goal-leader William Nylander joins Hockey Central at Noon to discuss scoring, the Leafs and his brother Alex in the OHL.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect William Nylander will be made available for Team Sweden at the World Junior Hockey Championship, the team announced Tuesday.

He will join the Swedish camp Saturday, after the Toronto Marlies’ two road games.

This will be the second year the 19-year-old centre, currently playing with the AHL Toronto Marlies, will suit up for Sweden in the international tournament. He tied for second in scoring among all skaters in last year’s tournament (3G, 10pts).

Nylander, who leads the AHL in scoring with 31 points in 27 games, was named to Sweden’s selection camp roster last week along with his younger brother, Alexander.

The news comes a few days after fellow Leafs prospect Kasperi Kapanen was made available for Team Finland.

The tournament begins Dec. 26 in Helsinki, Finland.
