OHL: DiFruscia notches 4 points in IceDogs win

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Anthony DiFruscia had a hat trick and added an assist as the Niagara IceDogs doubled up the Windsor Spitfires 8-4 on Sunday afternoon in Ontario Hockey League action.

Vince Dunn, Jordan Maletta, Brendan Perlini, Cody Payne and Ryan Mantha supplied the rest of the offence for Niagara (35-26-4).

Trevor Murphy, Lucas Venuto, Jamie Lewis and Slater Doggett scored for the Spitfires (24-37-4), who dropped their eighth straight.

Brent Moran got the win in goal, stopping 27 shots. Brendan Johnston started for Windsor and turned aside 14-of-19 shots in 22:05. Alex Fortinos played 37:55 and made 27 saves.

Liam Murray of the Spitfires received a game misconduct and match penalty for spearing at 16:27 of the second period. Windsor’s Trevor Murphy was also ejected in the third period for abuse of an official.

The IceDogs scored three times on eight power-play attempts while the Spitfires were 1 for 2.

SPIRIT 6 WHALERS 3

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Tye Felhaber had two goals and an assist as Saginaw topped the Whalers.

Jesse Barwell also struck twice for the Spirit (28-35-3). Dylan Sadowy and Connor Brown rounded out the attack as Saginaw won its third straight.

Victor Crus Rydberg, Yannick Rathgeb and Mathew Campagna scored for Plymouth (23-36-6).

BATTALION 4 BULLS 3 (SO)

BELLEVILLE, Ont. — Mike Amadio scored the only goal of the shootout as North Bay edged the Bulls.

Alex Henriksson, Nick Moutrey and Mathew Santos found the back of the net in regulation for the Battalion (34-20-11).

Justin Lemcke, Stephen Harper and Jordan Subban had goals for Belleville (25-32-8), which dropped its fifth contest in a row.

OTTERS 5 RANGERS 1

ERIE, Pa. — Alex DeBrincat had a pair of goals and Connor McDavid scored once and added two helpers as the Otters beat Kitchener for their seventh straight victory.

Darren Raddysh and Taylor Raddysh also scored for Erie (47-14-4) as Remi Elie tacked on three assists.

Max Iafrate scored for the Rangers (31-23-10), who had their four-game win streak halted.

GENERALS 9 FRONTENACS 1

OSHAWA, Ont. — Matt Mistele scored twice and Cole Cassels had a goal and two assists as the Generals snapped Kingston’s six-game win streak.

Will Petschenig, Brent Pedersen, Tobias Lindberg, Hunter Smith, Mitchell Vande Sompel and Michael Dal Colle also scored for Oshawa (50-10-5).

Juho Lammikko supplied the scoring for the Frontenacs (30-27-8).
