Thomas gives Generals edge over Petes

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Christian Thomas scored the game-winning goal to give the Oshawa Generals a 4-3 win over the Peterborough Petes in Ontario Hockey League action Tuesday.

Scott Sabourin had a pair of goals and an assist to lead Oshawa (31-28-6). Boone Jenner added the Generals’ fourth marker and Julian Melchiori had three assists.

Alan Quine scored twice and Steven Trojanovic once for Peterborough (26-33-7).

The Generals took a 2-0 lead through the first by capitalizing on both their power play chances in the period. Jenner and Sabourin each scored with Melchiori assisting on both goals.

Sabourin stretched the lead to three at 7:58 of the second period but the Petes fought back with a pair of goals. Trojanovic scored on a power play then Quine made it 3-2 with 2:01 to go in the second.

Quine connected again at 12:02 of the third period to tie it up at 3-3, but Thomas scored Oshawa’s winner just 90 seconds later.

Joey West played in his 324th game for the Petes, tying a team record that he can break by playing in either of their final two games this season.

BARRIE 5, SUDBURY 4 (SO)

SUDBURY, Ont. — Daniel Erlich scored in regulation and in the shootout as the Barrie Colts won 5-4 over the Sudbury Wolves in Ontario Hockey League play Tuesday.

Ivan Telegin had two goals and Chris Buonomo also scored for the Barrie Colts (40-22-4).

Joshua Leivo scored twice while Derek Schoenmakers and Justin Sefton had the other goals for the Sudbury Wolves (35-24-6).

Mathias Niederberger made 28 saves for the win, while Johan Mattsson allowed four goals on 40 shots for Sudbury.

Schoenmakers opened the scoring for the Wolves on the power play at 15:50 in the first period after he tipped a point shot from Josh McFadden past Niederberger.

Buonomo tied the game for the Colts at 17:36 after he unloaded a wrist shot that beat Mattsson high glove-side.

Telegin gave the Colts the lead at 2:43 in the second period while Leivo replied for the Wolves to tie the game at 7:13 of the second.

Leivo scored his second goal and gave the Wolves the lead on the power play at 11:47 after he buried a rebound from the side of the net.

Telegin scored on the power play at 17:35 to make it 3-3 after Tanner Pearson found him with a cross-crease pass for the wide-open net.

Erlich gave the Colts the lead at 1:00 in the third period. Sefton tied the game for the Wolves on the power play at 5:50.

Erlich scored the shootout winner for the Colts with a blocker side goal on Mattsson in the third round.

Sudbury went 3-for-6 on the power play, while Barrie wound up 1-for-3.
