OHL Playoffs: Mascherin scores twice as Rangers eliminate Sting


SARNIA, Ont. – Adam Mascherin scored twice as the Kitchener Rangers defeated the Sarnia Sting 6-2 in Game 6 on Sunday to advance to the Ontario Hockey League Western Conference final.

Mascherin supplied the game-winning goal for the Rangers at 18:29 of the second period.

Givani Smith scored two goals while Greg Meireles and Givani Smith added a goal apiece for Kitchener.

Anthony Salinitri and Jordan Kyrou scored for the Sting.

Mario Culina turned aside 37 shots for Kitchener. Justin Fazio turned away 23 shots for Sarnia.

The Sting went 1 for 4 on the power play. The Rangers were 0 for 1 with the man advantage.

The Rangers will face the winner of the Western Conference semifinal between the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Owen Sound Attack.


OWEN SOUND, Ont. — The Attack staved off elimination and forced a Game 7 by thumping Sault Ste. Marie in their Ontario Hockey League Western Conference semifinal matchup.

Jonah Gadjovich scored the game-winning goal for the Attack at 1:34 of the second period.

Trenton Bourque, Kevin Hancock, Ethan Szypula, Brett McKenzie, Alan Lyszczarczyk and Aidan Dudas also scored for the Attack

Barrett Hayton scored for the Greyhounds, who will host Game 7 Tuesday.
