OHL Roundup: Ben Jones leads IceDogs in win over Steelheads

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Ben Jones scored twice as the Niagara IceDogs defeated the Mississauga Steelheads 6-3 in Ontario Hockey League action on Saturday.

Johnny Corneil, Liam Ham, Kirill Maksimov and Oliver Castleman also scored for Niagara (35-23-10).

Ryan McLeod, Owen Tippett and Michael McLeod scored for the Steelheads (32-32-3).

IceDogs goaltender Stephen Dhillon turned aside 31 shots. Mississauga’s Emanuel Vella made 24 saves.

Niagara was 2 for 5 on the power play while the Steelheads went 1 for 3 with the man advantage.

OTTERS 6 STORM 4

ERIE, Pa. — Gera Poddubnyi scored the winner on a power play 8:25 into the third period to lift the Otters over Guelph.

Alex Gritz, Kyle Maksimovich, Troy Lajeunesse, Hayden Fowler and Stephane Patry also scored for Erie (23-35-10).

Isaac Ratcliffe, Zach Poirier, Dmitri Samorukov and Keegan Stevenson supplied the offence for the Storm (30-29-9).

SPITFIRES 4 FIREBIRDS 2

FLINT, Mich. — Igor Larionov had a goal and two assists to lead Windsor over the Firebirds.

Daniel D’Amico, Jake Smith and Cole Purboo also scored for the Spitfires (31-30-6).

Ethan Keppen and Hunter Holmes replied for Flint (20-43-5).

BULLDOGS 5 PETES 3

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Marian Studenic scored a hat trick as Hamilton beat the Petes.

Benjamin Gleason and Isaac Nurse also scored for the Bulldogs (43-18-7).

Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, Nick Robertson and Logan DeNoble had goals for Peterborough (22-39-6).

KNIGHTS 4 SPIRIT 3 (OT)

SAGINAW, Mich. — Evan Bouchard scored 43 seconds into overtime as London edged the Spirit.

Tyler Rollo, Alex Turko and Alex Formenton also scored for the Knights (39-24-4).

Jake Goldowski, Caleb Everett and Damien Giroux provided the offence for Saginaw (29-29-9).

ATTACK 9 STING 4

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Nick Suzuki scored two goals and set up another as the Attack downed Sarnia.

Brett McKenzie and Jackson Doherty also scored twice for Owen Sound (38-22-8) while Brady Lyle, Daylon Groulx and Aidan Dudas rounded out the offence.

Brayden Guy led the Sting (46-17-5) with two goals. Michael Pezzetta and Ryan McGregor had the others.

COLTS 10 WOLVES 3

BARRIE, Ont. — Zachary Magwood scored a hat trick and tacked on an assist and Lucas Chiodo had a goal and four helpers as the Colts toppled Sudbury.

Jaden Peca, Ben Hawerchuk, Christopher Cameron, Justin Murray, Andrei Svechnikov and Joey Keane also scored for Barrie (42-21-5). Ryan Suzuki had five assists.

Blake Murray scored twice for the Wolves (17-41-9). Dawson Baker added the other.

Barrie’s Svechnikov was given a match penalty for checking to the head at 7:24 of the third period.
