OHL Roundup: Bulldogs beat 67’s, advance to second round of playoffs

HAMILTON — Kaden Fulcher turned away 24 shots as the Hamilton Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs with a 4-1 win on Friday against the Ottawa 67’s.

Nicholas Caamano scored the eventual winner at 12:19 of the first period for the Bulldogs, who took the first-round series 4-1.

Matthew Strome, Brandon Saigeon and Isaac Nurse also scored for Hamilton while Ryan Moore chipped in with three assists.

Tye Felhaber found the back of the net for the 67’s, who got 24 saves from Olivier Tremblay.

The Bulldogs went 2 for 5 on the power play while Ottawa failed to score on two chances with the man advantage.

Hamilton is the first team in the Eastern Conference to advance.

STING 4 SPITFIRES 2

SARNIA, Ont. — Michael Pezzetta scored the winner at 4:29 of the third period as the Sting edged Windsor for a 3-2 first-round series lead.

Cam Dineen, Sean Josling and Hugo Leufvenius also scored for Sarnia. Justin Fazio made 23 saves for the victory.

Tyler Angle and Jake Smith replied for the Spitfires. Michael DiPietro stopped 28-of-31 shots before giving way to Brock Baier, who stopped 11 shots in 14:59 of relief.

Game 6 goes Sunday in Windsor.

RANGERS 10 STORM 2

KITCHENER, Ont. — Adam Mascherin had a hat trick and an assist as the Rangers toppled Guelph to take a 3-2 lead in their first-round matchup.

Kole Sherwood, Connor Bunnaman and Jonathan Yantsis each had a pair of goals and Joseph Garreffa also scored for the Kitchener. Mario Culina made 32 saves for the win.

Zach Poirier and Isaac Ratcliffe struck for the Storm. Nico Daws combined with Anthony Popovich for 39 saves in a losing cause.

Guelph will try and keep its season alive when it hosts Game 6 on Sunday.
