OHL Roundup: Marner leads Knights over Firebirds

KINGSTON, Ont. – Michael Dal Colle had two goals and three assists in his first game against his former team as the Kingston Frontenacs beat the Oshawa Generals 5-2 on Friday night in Ontario Hockey League action.

The Frontenacs (24-11-3) acquired Dal Colle from the defending Memorial Cup champions on Jan. 1.

Stephen Desrocher scored twice and added an assist while Spencer Watson had a goal and three assists to round out the Kingston scoring. It was the third-straight win for the Frontenacs.

Alexandre Renaud and Kenny Huether chipped in for the Generals (16-19-5), who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Lucas Peressini turned aside 22 shots for the win as Jeremy Brodeur made 37 saves in defeat.

Neither team scored with the man advantage, with Kingston going 0 for 4 and Oshawa 0 for 6.

KNIGHTS 3 FIREBIRDS 1

LONDON, Ont. — Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Mitchell Marner had a power-play goal and an assist as the Knights handed Flint its fifth-straight loss.

Matthew Tkachuk had an identical night as Marner for London (28-6-3), which won its third in a row. Cliff Pu had the other goal.

Will Bitten scored for the Firebirds (14-19-4).

OTTAWA — Ben Fanjoy broke a tie in the third period as the 67’s edged Peterborough.

Nevin Guy and Sasha Chmelevski also scored for Ottawa (19-19-1), which snapped a three-game losing skid.

Hunter Garlent and Brandon Prophet found the back of the net for the Petes (17-17-6).

WOLVES 3 BATTALION 2 (OT)

SUDBURY, Ont. — Ryan Valentini scored the winner 2:09 into overtime as the Wolves slipped past North Bay.

Dmitry Sokolov and Brady Pataki also had goals for Sudbury (10-26-4).

Brett McKenzie and Cam Dineen supplied the offence for the Battalion (20-14-4).

ICEDOGS 3 SPIRIT 1

SAGINAW, Mich. — Graham Knott and Johnny Corneil scored in the first period as Niagara downed the Spirit.

Jordan Maletta added an empty netter on the power play for the IceDogs (20-13-5), who won their third in a row.

Tye Felhaber had a power-play goal for Saginaw (17-19-3).

ATTACK 5 STING 4 (OT)

SARNIA, Ont. — Bryson Cianfrone scored 1:11 into overtime as Owen Sound edged the Sting.

Ethan Szypula struck twice in regulation, with Kevin Hancock adding a goal and two assists for the Attack (17-15-7). Jacob Friend also found the back of the net.

Travis Konecny scored a hat trick in his first game since being acquired by Sarnia (19-11-6). Brandon Lindberg had the other.

Hayden Hodgson of the Sting was ejected at 17:48 of the third period for checking to the head.

OTTERS 2 GREYHOUNDS 1 (OT)

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Travis Dermott scored his second goal of the game on the power play in overtime as Erie downed the Greyhounds.

Dylan Strome and Alex DeBrincat assisted on the winner for the Otters (33-5-1).

Boris Katchouk opened the scoring on the power play for Sault Ste. Marie (17-16-6).

Erie’s TJ Fergus was assessed a match penalty for slew footing at 9:16 of the first period.

GUELPH, Ont. — Givani Smith had two goals and an assist as the Storm downed Barrie.

Jacob Harris and James McEwan scored once and added an assist for Guelph (6-28-3). Garrett McFadden had the other.

Kody Gagnon and Kevin Labanc chipped in for the Colts (23-14-1).

RANGERS 4 BULLDOGS 2

KITCHENER, Ont. — Brian Brosnan and Ryan MacInnis scored in the third period as the Rangers doubled up Hamilton.

Jeremy Bracco and Elijah Roberts rounded out the attack for Kitchener (27-6-4).

Niki Petti and Trent Fox had goals for the Bulldogs (14-22-3).
