OHL Roundup: Greyhounds continue to roll with win over Spitfires

WINDSOR, Ont. — Keeghan Howdeshell scored twice in the third period as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds hung on to beat the Windsor Spitfires 3-2 on Thursday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Morgan Frost also scored for the Greyhounds (9-3-2), who built up a 3-0 lead before allowing two late goals.

Matthew Villalta made 27 saves as Sault Ste. Marie improved to 6-0-1 in its last seven, taking over top spot in the Western Conference.

Will Cuylle and Tyler Angle responded for the Spitfires (5-7-1) with goals 1:58 apart in the final three minutes of regulation.

Michael DiPietro turned away 19-of-22 shots for Windsor.

The Greyhounds went 0 for 3 on the power play while the Spitfires scored once on three chances with the man advantage.

BATTALION 4 COLTS 1

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Justin Brazeau, fresh off CHL player of the week honours, had two goals and an assist to lift the Battalion over Barrie.

Brandon Coe and David Maier also found the back of the net while Christian Purboo made 28 saves for North Bay (6-7-0)

Matej Pekar opened the scoring in the first for the Colts (7-6-1) before giving up four straight. Kaie Edmonds stopped 13-of-17 shots in defeat.

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Hunter Jones kicked out 31 shots as the Petes toppled Sudbury to halt a four-game slide.

Nick Robertson, Declan Chisholm, Pavel Gogolev, Nick Isaacson and Brady Hinz supplied the Peterborough (9-6-0) offence.

Quinton Byfield and Nolan Hutcheson had goals for the Wolves (8-5-0). Jake McGrath stopped 31-of-35 shots in a losing cause.
