OHL Roundup: Kopacka scores winner as Greyhounds beat Sting

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. — Jack Kopacka scored twice in regulation and again in the shootout as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds edged the Sarnia Sting 6-5 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Morgan Frost, Tim Gettinger and Mac Hollowell also scored for the Greyhounds (51-6-4). Matthew Villalta made 37 saves in net.

Drake Rymsha led the Sting (45-15-5) with two goals. Cam Dineen, Franco Sproviero and Mitch Eliot also scored.

Aidan Hughes kicked out 32 shots for Sarnia.

Sault Ste. Marie went 1 for 7 on the power play and the Sting were 2 for 6 with the man advantage.

FIREBIRDS 6 STORM 5 (OT)

GUELPH, Ont. — Jalen Smereck scored 35 seconds into overtime as Flint upset the Storm.

Maurizio Colella, Jake Durham, Ty Dellandrea, Ethan Keppen and C.J. Clarke also scored for the Firebirds (17-39-5).

Isaac Ratcliffe had a hat trick for Guelph (27-25-8), while Keegan Stevenson and Mason Primeau also found the back of the net.

BATTALION 2 STEELHEADS 1

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Adam Thilander’s goal 17:24 into the second period stood as the winner as North Bay held on for a win over the Steelheads.

Matthew Struthers also scored for the Battalion (28-25-9).

Nicolas Hague was the lone Mississauga (28-30-3) scorer.

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Ryan Suzuki struck twice, including the second-period winner, as Barrie routed Niagara.

Aaron Luchuk, Andrei Svechnikov, Dmitry Sokolov, Jaden Peca and Joey Keane also scored for the Colts (37-21-3).

Kirill Maksimov and William Lochead responded for the IceDogs (28-23-10).

KNIGHTS 3 FRONTENACS 0

KINGSTON, Ont. — Jordan Kooy stopped all 25 shots he faced as London blanked the Frontenacs.

Liam Foudy scored twice, including the short-handed winner, for the Knights (34-23-4), while Billy Moskal also found the back of the net.

Jeremy Helvig kicked out 26 shots for Kingston (32-19-9).

BULLDOGS 3 67’S 1

HAMILTON — Justin Lemcke’s second-period goal was the eventual winner as the Bulldogs topped Ottawa.

MacKenzie Entwistle and Matthew Strome chipped in for Hamilton (40-16-6).

Travis Barron scored for the 67’s (28-25-8).

GENERALS 3 RANGERS 2

KITCHENER, Ont. — Domenico Commisso scored the game-winning goal at 8:20 of the third period as Oshawa eked out a win over the Rangers.

Brendan Harrogate and Kyle MacLean also scored for the Generals (32-26-3).

Jonathan Yantsis and Connor Bunnaman scored for Kitchener (40-19-2).
