OHL Roundup: No. 1 Greyhounds beat Spirit to take 3-0 series lead

SAGINAW, Mich. — Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk both scored twice as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds beat the Saginaw Spirit 7-3 on Monday to move one win away from the next round of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.

Hayden Verbeek scored the eventual winner at 6:42 of the third period while Rasmus Sandin and Jack Kopacka had the others for the Greyhounds, who lead the best-of-seven first-round set 3-0.

Max Grondin, Mason Kohn and Nicholas Porco supplied the offence for the Spirit.

Matthew Villalta made 23 saves for Sault Ste. Marie as Evan Cormier turned away 29-of-36 shots for Saginaw.

The Greyhounds went 2 for 4 on the power play while the Spirit scored on their only chance with the man advantage.

The Spirit will try and avoid elimination on Wednesday when they host Game 4.

COLTS 5 STEELHEADS 3

BARRIE, Ont. — Lucas Chiodo scored twice and Aaron Luchuk added a goal and three assists as the Colts beat Mississauga to even their first-round series 1-1.

Leo Lazarev made 38 saves for the win while Dmitry Sokolov and Zachary Magwood also scored for Barrie.

Keean Washkurak, Ryan McLeod and Adam Varga found the back of the net for the Steelheads. Jacob Ingham stopped 22-of-26 shots in defeat.

Game 3 goes Tuesday in Mississauga.

ATTACK 4 KNIGHTS 3 (OT)

LONDON, Ont. — Brett McKenzie picked up his fourth point of the game when he set up Alan Lyszczarczyk’s overtime winner, lifting Owen Sound over the Knights for a 3-0 first-round series lead.

McKenzie finished with two goals and two helpers while Sean Durzi also scored for the Attack, who got 23 saves from Olivier Lafreniere.

Sergey Popov, Tyler Rollo and Evan Bouchard replied for London. Joseph Raaymakers turned aside 38 shots in a losing cause.

The Knights will look to keep their season alive when they host Game 4 on Thursday.
