OHL Roundup: Poddubnyi scores shootout winner, Otters top Greyhounds


SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Gera Poddubnyi scored the shootout winner, lifting the Erie Otters to a 3-2 victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Emmett Sproule and Kyle Maksimovich scored in regulation for Erie (8-8-1).

Mac Hollowell and Keeghan Howdeshell had power-play goals for the Greyhounds (12-3-4).

Otters goaltender Daniel Murphy made 30 saves through regulation and overtime and stopped 3-of-5 in the shootout.

Sault Ste. Marie’s Ethan Taylor made 26 stops in 65 minutes, but allowed three shootout goals in the tiebreaker.


KITCHENER, Ont. — Joseph Raaymakers stopped all 30 shots he faced as London blanked the Rangers.

Evan Bouchard, Sergey Popov and Alex Formenton supplied the offence for the Knights (10-4-2).

Lucas Pfeil made 33 saves for Kitchener (7-8-2).


MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Cole Carter’s goal early in the third period stood as the winner in the Steelheads’ victory over Kingston.

Cole Schwindt, Alan Lyszczarczyk, Keenan Waskurak and Ryan McLeod, into an empty net, also scored for Mississauga (10-5-2).

Dawson Baker and Jason Robertson replied for the Frontenacs (5-13-1).


HAMILTON — Arthur Kaliyev scored two goals and set up one more to lead the Bulldogs past Owen Sound.

Nicolas Mattinen, Brandon Saigeon and Ben Garagan also scored for Hamilton (8-8-1).

Nick Suzuki struck twice for the Attack (9-7-2).


SUDBURY, Ont. — Drake Pilon scored the game-winning goal on the power play with less than a minute left in the third period as Sudbury escaped with a win over North Bay.

Shane Bulitka, Zack Malik and Owen Gilhula also found the back of the net for the Wolves (10-6-1). Harrison Caines, Justin Brazeau and Brad Chenier answered for the Battalion (8-8-1).

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen turned aside 34 shots for Sudbury. Christian Propp kicked out 32 shots for North Bay.

SAGINAW, Mich. — Mitchell Hoelscher scored twice as Ottawa thumped Saginaw to pick up its twelfth win in its past 13 games and stretched its league-leading point total to 31.

Sam Bitten, Austen Keating, Marco Rossi, Sasha Chmelevski, Tye Felhaber and Graeme Clarke also scored for the 67’s (15-3-1).

Blade Jenkins and Hayden Davis netted goals for the Spirit (8-6-2).

Jean-Philippe Tourigny combined with Cedrick Andree for 35 saves for Ottawa. Cameron Lamour and Ivan Prosvetov put together 23 saves for Saginaw.


OSHAWA, Ont. — Kyle Keyser made 34 saves as Oshawa blanked Barrie.

Danil Antropov scored the game-winning goal for the Generals at 0:21 of the first period. Giovanni Vallati, Nando Eggenberger and Eric Henderson also found the back of the net for the Generals (9-6-2).

Maksim Zhukov turned aside 33 shots for Barrie (9-7-1).

Colts winger Ben Hawerchuk received a game misconduct for fighting in the final five minutes of the game at 16:10 of the third period.
