OHL Roundup: Pu, Marner score as Knights top Colts

The OHL's top scoring team the London Knights came out on top against the second best scoring team in the Barrie Colts with a 4-1 win on Friday.

LONDON, Ont. — Robert Thomas and Cliff Pu scored in the first period as the Knights got past Barrie.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Mitchell Marner and Olli Juolevi, on the power play, also chipped in for London (40-12-3).


Justin Scott had a goal for the Colts (34-18-2).

GUELPH, Ont. — James McEwan scored twice and Michael Giugovaz made 40 saves as the Guelph Storm beat the Owen Sound Attack 5-3 on Friday night in Ontario Hockey League action.

Isaac Ratcliffe had a goal and two assists, with Jake Bricknell and Nicolas Sicoly also chipping in for the Storm (12-36-6), who snapped a four-game skid.

Justin Brack, Petrus Palmu and Jonah Gadjovich found the back of the net for Owen Sound (25-20-10). Bryson Cianfrone tacked on three assists with Daniel Dekoning turning aside 28 shots in net.

Guelph scored twice on four power plays while the Attack were 1 for 5.

FRONTENACS 5 67’S 2

OTTAWA — Spencer Watson scored the winner in a three-goal third period for Kingston as it rallied past the 67’s.

Jared Steege, on the power play, and Juho Lammikko, into an empty net, had the others in the third for the Frontenacs (36-15-4). Lawson Crouse and Chad Duchesne also chipped in.

Evan de Haan, with the man advantage, and Ben Fanjoy had goals in the second period for Ottawa (29-25-2).

PETES 6 WOLVES 4

SUDBURY, Ont. — Logan DeNoble struck twice as Peterborough won its fourth straight by beating the Wolves.

Hunter Garlent, Jonathan Ang, Greg Betzold and Dominik Masin supplied the rest of the offence for the Petes (28-22-6).

Ryan Valentini had two goals and an assist for Sudbury (15-37-4). Patrick Murphy and Mikkel Aagaard scored the others.

SPIRIT 3 OTTERS 1

SAGINAW, Mich. — Hayden Hodgson scored the go-ahead goal in the second period as the Spirit got past Erie.

Artem Artemov opened the scoring early in the first with Kris Bennett adding an empty netter for Saginaw (22-29-6).

Vanya Lodnia had the lone goal for the Otters (43-11-1).

FIREBIRDS 4 STING 3

SARNIA, Ont. — Will Bitten and Keenan Reynolds had a goal and an assist each as Flint snapped a three-game skid by edging the Sting.

Vili Saarjarvi and Ryan Moore also found the back of the net for the Firebirds (17-32-6).

Troy Lajeunesse, Travis Konecny and Matt Mistele scored for Sarnia (32-17-7).

RANGERS 5 GENERALS 0

KITCHENER, Ont. — Ryan MacInnis scored a hat trick and Luke Opilka stopped all 20 shots he faced as the Rangers shut out Oshawa.

Brandon Robinson and Darby Llewellyn also had goals for Kitchener (38-12-5).

Jeremy Brodeur turned away 38 shots for the Generals (20-29-7).

Mason Kohn of the Rangers was ejected early in the first period for cross checking.

BATTALION 5 STEELHEADS 1

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Brett McKenzie and Mathew Santos both scored once and added an assist as North Bay downed the Steelheads.

Brett Hargrave, Zach Poirier and Mike Amadio rounded out the attack for the Battalion (29-18-8), who won their third in a row.

Stephen Gibson had a goal for Mississauga (28-25-4), which had a three-game win streak snapped.
