OHL Roundup: Rangers beat Storm in 6 games to advance

GUELPH, Ont. — Logan Brown had two goals and an assist as the Kitchener Rangers beat the Guelph Storm 5-2 on Sunday to advance to the second round of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.

Givani Smith, Riley Damiani and Joseph Garreffa also scored for the Rangers, who took the first-round series 4-2.

Ryan Merkley and Isaac Ratcliffe replied for the Storm.

Mario Culina made 29 saves for Kitchener as Anthony Popovich turned away 27 shots for Guelph.

The Rangers went 0 for 2 on the power play while the Storm went 1 for 3 with the man advantage.

Kitchener will face the Sarnia Sting in the next round.

STING 5 SPITFIRES 2

WINDSOR, Ont. — Jonathan Ang scored the eventual winner at 7:41 of the second period as Sarnia toppled the Spitfires to win the first-round matchup 4-2.

Ryan McGregor, Franco Sproviero, Jordan Ernst and Hugo Leufvenius also scored for the Sting, who will face the Kitchener Rangers in Round 2. Justin Fazio made 18 saves for the win.

William Sirman and Zach Shankar supplied the offence for Windsor. Michael DiPietro stopped 28-of-32 shots in a losing cause.

COLTS 8 STEELHEADS 2

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Andrei Svechnikov had two goals and three assists and Leo Lazarev made 40 saves as Barrie downed the Steelheads in six games to advance to Round 2.

Aaron Luchuk had a goal and three helpers while Zachary Magwood and Dmitry Sokolov added a pair of goals apiece for the Colts. Luke Bignell also scored.

Michael McLeod and Cole Carter found the back of the net for Mississauga. Jacob Ingham turned aside 32 shots in defeat.

Barrie will play the Kingston Frontenacs in the second round.
